Newest Japanese Trend: "Busu-Kawaii"

So apparently the latest thing in Japan is "busu-kawaii", girls that are kind of ugly, but also kind of cute, at the same time.

A NSFW article out of Sankaku about this is here.

A SFW article featuring a cosplayer called Akasan, "queen of busu-kawaii", is here.

So what do all of you make of this "busu-kawaii" business?

I...don't even know. Isn't that term, "busu-kawaii" just contradictory to itself? Even though the articles explained everything, I still can't wrap the concept around my head. Eh, I won't think of it too much. But hey, whatever floats their boat, I guess, lol.

I'm not sure whether I think it's ridiculous or funny. It's an interesting idea to put a label on, but aren't we all a little of both?

Anyway I especially don't get the 'duck-face' ones... is making a weird face enough to go from cute to ugly-cute? who knows

In any case the "queen of busu-kawaii" must really like the attention, because (like I said) there isn't much busu save for the weird face.
