Otaku Elimination

How do you generate a lot of traffic? Talk trash about other people.

There's more to it than that, but I can't help but be astonished by how much attention this site has gotten. Dozens upon dozens of comments at dozens of sites have attempted to explain, character assassinate, or validate this upstart blog.

All you need to do to see that is to turn on TV "news". We could have reasoned, logical debates between educated people on the right and the left, but instead, what do we get? Keith Olbermann and Bill O'Reilly trash talking each other like they were a couple of third-string WWE wrestlers. Why? Because that's what sells.

I wish people who occupy themselves within this subculture would give others a chance to explore the possibilities typically avoided or shunned. I don't know the whole story on exactly what OEG did wrong (other than a misuse of the term "otaku"?), but to attack a blog who aims to speak into the anime blogosphere as if it posed a threat to its very existence is pretty bigoted in my opinion.

I guess that's why it was difficult for me to make any waves within the anime blog community myself. So I simply struck out on my own.
