What made you an Otaku?

What hooked you? The Games? The Manga? The Anime? The Pocky? The music? The costumes?

What made you love the things from Japan so much it's an obsession?

What made you pick up the first volume of the backwards comic books?

What made you turn on the Japanese based cartoons?

Why did you pick up that Legend of Zelda game?

What made you decide to put on a cosplay?

Why do you roleplay?

The questions that nobody asks I'm curious for the answer. I was always a gamer because of my father, and I got hooked on Card Captors and Sailor Moon which I found out were manga and anime so that's that. I wanted to feel like a character and my friends helped me so I picked up a cosplay and adopted the personality. All in all I do it for fun. Now What made YOU an OTAKU?

I'm not much of an otaku, but I am a gamer. Have been since I played Duck Hunt with my uncle when I was about 2. It has been down hill since then.

I watched the original Dragon Ball really early on in my life, as well as MS Gundam. I didn't really get into anime until High School when I dated a Japanophile. Mixed with my already established love of Cowboy Bebop, Dragon Ball/Z, and Gundam, I went through an anime and manga phase. But that was years ago.

I still enjoy some of it, and of course I play games (since I review them), but not much has really gotten to me. Maybe I'm just an old fart, or my tastes have changed. Most anime just doesn't cut it for me.

When I was younger, I grew up on Sailor Moon, Dragonball Z, Rurouni Kenshin, Tenchi Muyo and all that other good stuff that was on Toonami (R.I.P.). My mom thought it was weird and actually recommended the usual cartoons for girls my age, but I was never like the other girls. I really wanted to be a boy when I was growing up. lol

Anywayz, as I got older, I started finding more and more interesting shows that my peers didn't watch as religiously as I did. I found out that the shows I loved were categorized as anime. So after learning that and finding some new ones on the new Adult Swim, I became hooked and have been so ever since.

As for my gamer lifestyle, it started with the old-school Nintendo, evolved into the Game Boy and its numerous predecessors, and branched out to the Playstation and Wii. Tetris, Pokemon and Mario were the foundations of my gaming days. lol My dad got me into them actually with his DigDug and Galaga skills.

My brothers had some games but they were not otaku. I really became an otaku when I stumbled upon Tokyo Mew Mew. I later found out that many of my friends were otaku as well and it has been an uphill spiral (because you can't call becoming an otaku a bad thing) ever since.

When I was little, my older sister's best friend was really into anime and I always saw manga in her room. But I didn't really know what it was at the time. I would watch Dragon Ball Z on the weekdays with my brother on cartoon network and pokemon on saturday mornings. I eventually went to my aunt's friend's house who had a son who was really into Hikaru No Go. So then I became obsessed and watched the whole series on zomganime. I guess by that time I was starting to figure out what anime really was and just starting to realize the difference between anime and manga. Then my brother's girlfriend introduced to Reborn! and my best friend introduced me to Keroro Gunsu. Now I'm finishing FMA. I've always been a zelda nerd and grew up with Ocarina of Time. So obviously I've cosplayed Link for like the past four years. Yeah!!! being an otaku is awesome!!!

I think everything hooked me. I love games, manga, anime and pocky. I'm not quite sure what made me buy my first manga, maybe it was because I wanted to try something new. As for the reason for starting to watch anime it was probably because I loved watching card captor Sakura years ago. One of my fondest memories from when I was younger was playing LOZ:OoT. :]

I'm kind of wierd when it comes to my otaku origins. I've played games all my life and watched pokemon for a while. Then one day i was just like, "Hey! I want to get into anime!" So i went over to F.Y.E., bought the first volume of the melancholy of haruhi suzumiya dvd's, and i was hooked. After that i began getting into all kinds of action, comedy, drama, and moe anime and manga.
